STAUNTON STATE PARK

As one of Colorado’s most recently designated state parks, Staunton has quickly become a hub for all types of recreation including the development of rock climbing routes atop it’s granite cliffs. Partnering with Colorado Parks and Wildlife in 2020, Singletrack Trails was brought on to construct 1050 ft of climbing access trail, belay pads and terraces to improve the approach, safety and usability of the Tan Corridor and Dungeon climbing areas.

Both climbing areas consist of loose scree varying in size adjacent to the base of the cliffside, making approach to the routes and belaying climbers difficult on the uneven terrain. Using a combination of 8 x 8 timber and loose rock at each site, over 30 terraces and belay pads were constructed between the two climbing areas, helping to stabilize the hillside and approach to climbing while preventing further erosion and increasing belayer comfort and safety.
